چکیده

Spoken language dialogue systems represent the peak of achievement in speech technologies in the 20 th century and appear set to form the basis for the increasingly natural interactive systems to follow in the coming decades. This chapter first presents a model of the task-oriented spoken dialogue system, its multiple aspects and some of the remaining research challenges. In the context of this model, a first general model is presented of the complex tasks performed by dialogue managers in state-of-the-art spoken language dialogue systems. The dialogue management model is aimed to support best practice in spoken language dialogue systems development and evaluation.

A Multilayered Approach To The Handling Of Word Formation

The treatment of word formations has until recently been a neglected topic in natural language AI research. This paper proposes a multilayered approach to word formation which treats derivatives and compounds on several different levels of processing within a natural language dialogue system. Analysis and generation strategies being developed for the dialogue system HAM-ANS are described. Ident...

Bootstrapping incremental dialogue systems: using linguistic knowledge to learn from minimal data

We present a method for inducing new dialogue systems from very small amounts of unannotated dialogue data, showing how word-level exploration using Reinforcement Learning (RL), combined with an incremental and semantic grammar Dynamic Syntax (DS) allows systems to discover, generate, and understand many new dialogue variants. The method avoids the use of expensive and time-consuming dialogue a...

A dynamic vocabulary spoken dialogue interface

Mixed-initiative spoken dialogue systems today generally allow users to query with a fixed vocabulary and grammar that is determined prior to run-time. This paper presents a spoken dialogue interface enhanced with a dynamic vocabulary capability. One or more word classes can be made dynamic in the speech recognizer and natural language (NL) grammar so that a context-specific vocabulary subset c...

Bootstrapping incremental dialogue systems from minimal data: the generalisation power of dialogue grammars

We investigate an end-to-end method for automatically inducing task-based dialogue systems from small amounts of unannotated dialogue data. It combines an incremental semantic grammar Dynamic Syntax and Type Theory with Records (DS-TTR) with Reinforcement Learning (RL), where language generation and dialogue management are a joint decision problem. The systems thus produced are incremental: dia...

An Evaluation Framework for Natural Language Understanding in Spoken Dialogue Systems

We present an evaluation framework to enable developers of information seeking, transaction based spoken dialogue systems to compare the robustness of natural language understanding (NLU) approaches across varying levels of word error rate and contrasting domains. We develop statistical and semantic parsing based approaches to dialogue act identification and concept retrieval. Voice search is u...
